Australia’s primary industries working together on climate change

Recognising that changes to Australia’s already variable climate will present great opportunities and challenges for the nation’s primary industries, a collaborative partnership - the National Climate Change Research Strategy for Primary Industries (CCRSPI) - was established in 2007.

CCRSPI operates under a mandate from the Primary Industry Ministerial Council and Primary Industry Standing Committee.

The CCRSPI partners are:

• primary industry State agencies
• Rural Research and Development Corporations
• Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry
• CSIRO

CCRSPI is overseen by a Steering Committee whose membership is comprised of representatives drawn from the partnership.

What is CCRSPI?

The CCRSPI partnership initially invested to develop and implement a strategy identifying:

• collaborative research opportunities that assist primary industries to understand, and build capacity to meet, climate change mitigation and adaptation need

How does CCRSPI work?

CCRSPI focuses on collaboration, coordination and communication not control of the research agenda.

The CCRSPI framework operates by consensus and transparency:

• with regular reporting to CCRSPI Steering Committee and is
• flexible to different partner needs/processes (partners are free to pursue their own research interests as desired).

CCRSPI partners lead, participate or link research activity on agreed research themes, and work collaboratively on submissions or projects.
